Rangnick praises Milan after sliding doors moment: “They have worked well”

By Isak Möller -

A little over two years ago, Ralf Rangnick was just one step away from joining AC Milan as their new manager. However, the Rossoneri ended up renewing Stefano Pioli’s contract and it was a real sliding doors moment.

Since renewing Pioli’s contract, Milan have returned to the Champions League and also managed to win the Scudetto last season. In short, the growth has been extraordinary and one wonders what it would have been like with Rangnick instead.

Rangnick, who was just one step away from the club, is currently the manager of Austria and he was asked about Milan in a press conference last night (via Football Italia). He had words of praise for the Rossoneri.

“Milan won the Scudetto, have progressed in the Champions League and worked really well over the last two or three years.

“We have players in the squad who are in Serie A, like Stefan Posch and Marko Arnautovic at Bologna. We watch Serie A games, it is a very important league. Napoli have been spectacular so far,” he stated.

After a strange period at Manchester United, Rangnick is hoping to redeem himself a bit with the Austria job. There’s no doubt that his name has lost a bit of prestige, previously considered a revolutionary manager with his methods.
