Real Madrid 2-1 Milan Primavera: Sia’s goal not enough as both sides get red cards

AC Milan’s Primavera side were dealt another blow in their European campaign as they were beaten 2-1 in the UEFA Youth League by Real Madrid on Tuesday afternoon.

After the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen which was sandwiched by draws against Liverpool and Club Brugge, Federico Guidi’s side went in search of their first win at a tough venue.

They fell behind in the 12th minute after Fortea went on a run down the right side and crossed for Yanez who scored with a left-footed volley past Colzani, who would later be stretchered off with a knee injury.

Just seven minutes later it was 2-0 from the penalty spot. Tartaglia made a sliding challenge in the box and the referee awarded a spot kick – which the Rossoneri players were fuming about – and Fortea converted it.

Ten minutes into the second half the game was reopened thanks to Diego Sia, who chested a cross down, dribbled around a defender and unleashed a powerful shot in at the near post.

Midway through the half Milan’s task was made almost impossible as Abde was shown a second yellow card, which was one of six that Milan were awarded as the Danish referee totally lost a grip on the game.

However, a few minutes after that Real Madrid went down to 10 men as Roberto Martin was also given a second yellow card after overstretching while trying to get to a bad touch.

In added time at the end of the 90 minutes Milan really could have snatched a point. Sala hit the post with a shot from the edge of the box and the rebound took a lucky bounce, then from a free-kick Paloschi missed with a free header from a few yards out.
