Record: Milan forward Leao asks for €16.5m compensation to Sporting to be annulled

Rafael Leao will ask for the large financial penalty that he has been told to pay Sporting CP to be annulled, according to a report.

Leao joined Milan from Lille back in August, but back when he did arrive it was revealed that his former club Sporting – where he came through the academy – are not happy about the situation.

Back in July 2018, the club’s fans attacked players and coaches while they trained, leading to a number of players ending their contract. Some of them, including Leao, went on to be sold by their new clubs and Sporting believe they were robbed of a transfer fee.

The Portuguese side in fact filed a request for compensation with FIFA for damages equal to €45million, which was rejected by the governing body, but it was then revealed that Leao will be ordered to pay €16.5m.

According to Portuguese outlet Record on Wednesday (via MilanNews), the forward has requested the annulment of the sentence that sees him forced to compensate Sporting.

Therefore, an official appeal agains the ruling from TAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) is expected to be lodged, while Lille have no involvement in the battle.
