Tuttosport: Regrets to redemption – Milan must channel their disappointment into Scudetto charge

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must now channel all their resources and energy into domestic competitions after falling short against Liverpool at San Siro last night.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes how the win Madrid had kept Milan’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive, but Stefano Pioli’s side lost against a rotated Liverpool side in front of a sold out San Siro last night, meaning they finished in fourth place in group B and there is not even the Europa League to fall back on.

After the defeat against the Reds, Pioli reflected on the team’s journey and admitted that there are some things that could have and should have gone a lot differently.

“We have some regrets. Because in my opinion we deserved something more at home against Atletico and Porto, but in our path we are meeting these difficulties. The important thing is that we are able to certify our growth: we have seen what kind of opponents there are, what quality is required. There is disappointment, our goal was to stay in Europe,” he said.

The elimination from Europe is therefore not seen as a failure by Milan and now the main target becomes the league (as well as the Coppa Italia too, it must be said).
