Reijnders on rejecting Barcelona: “I had good talks with Moncada and Pioli”

By Isak Möller -

Tijjani Reijnders is officially an AC Milan player after completing the move yesterday, becoming the fifth signing of the summer for the Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli, as admitted by the player, was important for the move.

The negotiations between AC Milan and AZ Alkmaar were long and tiring but eventually, an agreement was reached at €20m plus bonuses. Reijnders, meanwhile, quickly reached an agreement with the Rossoneri at around €1.6m per year.

Answering the questions of the media during his first press conference today, which you can read here, Reijnders was asked about the supposed interest of Barcelona. He stated that the choice to join Milan was an easy one.

“In the beginning, I had some good talks with Moncada and Pioli about the style of play and what they expected from me. That made the choice easier for me, and this is a wonderful club to play for,” he stated.

Reijnders will not take part in Milan’s friendly against Lumezzane this afternoon but he will travel with the squad to Los Angeles for the pre-season tour. The Rossoneri will face Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona while there and Reijnders will surely feature.
