CorSera: Renewal and a Champions League night – Giroud remains fundamental for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan finally returned to winning ways on Friday night against Torino and it was thanks to another big goal from Olivier Giroud.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning that the victory – however unconvincing it might have been – means Milan have thus taken a first step out of the crisis and will approach tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 first leg against Tottenham with a little more confidence.

Stefano Pioli will once again entrust the Frenchman from the start given his experience in big games. He has so far played 28 games out of 30 in the current season despite having come back from the World Cup in the winter experiencing some understandable fatigue.

He has no intention of stopping, rather on the contrary he is ready to sign a contract renewal for another year. There is still a small gap between demand (€3.7m net for 2023-24) and the offer on the table, but an agreement will soon be found thanks to the inclusion of some bonuses.

The 36-year-old has gone from being a bench player at Chelsea to experience a second wave of youth at Milan, where he become a fundamental and indispensable element of Pioli’s plans so they extent he cannot do without him.
