Having managed to fend off the interest from Chelsea, AC Milan are growing in confidence that they can now keep Mike Maignan long-term.
Until a few days ago, the Frenchman hoped to be going to Chelsea and playing in the Club World Cup. However, the deal fell apart as no agreement over a transfer fee was found, so now the risk is that he remains and leaves on a free transfer in June 2026.

Milan’s Maignan strategy
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), negotiations for the renewal of Maignan’s contract will be resumed from the end of the transfer window onwards. The Frenchman will remain in his place as the number one, mostly because MassimilianoAllegri ‘is crazy about him’.
That is partly why the Rossoneri held firm when the goalkeeper and the Blues were pushing to get to the deal done. Now the management is convinced that the risk of Magic Mike leaving has been practically averted because Allegri’s words have ‘made an impression’ on the former Lille man.
Maignan is coming off a complicated season in terms of performance and on some occasions he made serious errors, for example in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs against Feyenoord.
The agreement for the extension of his contract had already been reached at €5m net per year, but it was not signed and the decline in his performances pushed the Rossoneri directors to lower the economic offer.
Hence, a frost developed between the parties and Mike’s desire to leave Milan to fly to London, to Enzo Maresca. Giorgio Furlani and Igli Tare said no and are convinced that from September onwards the negotiations for the extension will also pick up again.

I’d renew Theo on a one year deal at the wages he requested too, including a release clause that can be activated. If he performs well abd we qualify then they can go from there.
Now is not the time to be spending on what we already have without trying to see how the team performs with a full training camp and reinforcements they failed to make last year.
I seriously think Leao and Pulisic will suffer without Theo drawing attention from the other team’s defense. Unless they get a Tavares or Udogie, I don’t see letting him go making us better. I don’t see those moves as being anymore viable or plausible compared to renewals. I would not count either out yet. We were weak on the same side Mike keeps getting scored on.

Just give him 6 mil and be done with it, minchia. Give him a base of 4.5 and offer 2 million in bonuses if we reach top 4 and he reaches a set minimum of match appearances. It’s really not that hard if you’re not trying to establish some ridiculous salary cap. I know that he had some dips but the percentage of games he kept us in with ridiculous saves has to be worth keeping him, no one else but maybe Donnarumma makes those saves. Plus, there are very few keepers with his footwork on the ball.
