Report: Aston Villa in talks with ex-Liverpool star as double raid on Milan takes shape

By Oliver Fisher -

Aston Villa have been offered the chance to sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina from AC Milan this month, a report claims, amid links to Krzysztof Piatek as well.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira reported on Tuesday night that the Premier League side have placed a €28million bid to try and sign Piatek.

In addition, they have offered the ex-Genoa star a four-and-a-half year deal (until 2024) for €3m-a-year, therefore a total potential salary of €13.5m and a package of €41.5m.

According to the Daily Mail though, he is not the only Milan player who is of interest to the Birmingham-based club.

The newspaper reports that Villa have held talks with the Rossoneri over a possible deal for goalkeeper Pepe Reina as well as Piatek, as they seek cover for the injured Tom Heaton and Wesley.

Reina, now 37, has struggled for game time despite being Milan’s back-up since his arrival in May 2018, however the report adds that he is keen on the idea of a return to England and believes he can still play at the top level.

In addition, the Mail report that Villa are willing to offer £25m (€28m) for Piatek, with the basis of the deal being a loan with option to buy depending on them keeping their Premier League status.
