Report: Cardinale and Milan could focus on Sesto as San Siro project would cost €3bn+

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan and Inter have been working on the new stadium project for two years now and little progress, frankly, has been made. Therefore, the Rossoneri’s new owner Gerry Cardinale could focus on another area.

According to Il Sole 24 Ore, as cited by Calciomercato, one of Milan’s advisors on the stadium project has warned the club about the cost of the project. To build a new stadium, and take care of Giuseppe Meazza, the cost would now be over €3bn due to the cost of raw materials and other factors.

In other words, the estimated cost of the operation has tripled since Milan and Inter first set out on this project. As a result of this, RedBird CEO and new Rossoneri owner Cardinale could go all-in for the Sesto Sain Giovanni area.

There, Milan would be able to build a stadium of their own (without Inter) and the costs most likely would be a lot less than San Siro. The hypothesis is gathering more and more steam as time passes and it remains to be seen what will happen.

  1. Here is my hypothesis:

AC Milan will continue to provide small transfer budget (below 50m) to develop the squad until the completion of the new stadium. After which some of the revenue from the stadium will be used as a part of the transfer and wage budget.

It happened with tottenham, atletico madrid and real madrid.

So it’s gonna take time (2027 is the expected completion date) for us to see big name players arriving at the club.

    1. I think you are right on that. I know a lot of people on here wish they were supporting PSG or one of those other clubs that doesn’t have to follow FFP but the reality is Milan have to keep their spending in check while revenues grow. Milan management have proven they can field a competitive team on a budget and I don’t see a reason to give up on that just because Barca and PSG are gonna spend 100 million every window. At the end of the day Milan just aren’t that type of club anymore and we all have to accept that. For those Milan fans that can’t I think Man City is still looking for fans lol.
