Report: Donnarumma renewal talks to commence – here’s why it is ‘delicate’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are set to open talks over a renewal for Gianluigi Donnarumma, a report claims, however it will not be straightforward.

PSG were strongly linked with a move for Milan’s prized young shot stopper throughout the summer, especially after Kevin Trapp’s move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Reports from outlets such as La Gazzetta dello Sport even claimed that the Rossoneri were not totally against selling as long as their valuation was met.

Despite this, the player’s will was always to remain at the club and he never though of leaving, as per a report on MilanNews.it – who cite Tuttosport.

Now, the report claims that Paolo Maldini and the rest of Milan’s management will sit down at the negotiating table with Mino Raiola once again, this time to discuss Gigio’s renewal.

Donnarumma’s current contract expires in 2021 and the club are not keen on reaching the end of the season with just a year left to run.

However, the outlet goes on to add that while the relationship between Raiola and the current Rossoneri owners are good, it is expected that the agent will ask for an increase on the current €6million-a-year he earns

Elliott Management have other plans though: they are seeking the reduce the amount of huge contracts they take on. As a result, the situation is described as ‘delicate’.
