Report: Milan set sights on Genoa winger with €10m price tag – his stats

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are planning for next season and quite a few reinforcements are expected from the mercato this summer. The right flank is a position that needs improving and the Rossoneri are eyeing a Genoa man.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias – especially the latter – have failed to impress the management this season and that’s why a right-winger could arrive this summer. One of the players on Milan’s radar is Albert Gudmundsson.

The 25-year-old is Genoa’s top goalscorer this season with 14 goals, assisting an additional five goals as well (all comps). According to Primocanale, as cited by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Milan are interested and are thus monitoring the player.

Genoa have made it clear that they want at least €10m for the Iceland international but for the time being, it’s just a symbolic figure as they aren’t open to a sale. With time, they believe he could be worth even more money, set for a good capital gain as they paid just €1.2m to sign him from AZ Alkmaar.

  1. Why not Orsolini? He’s at the right moment for a big club yet we are looking at this guy instead? Milan hates italians….

      1. “The entire management is Italian…”

Yet they buy from Ligue 1 every chance they’ve got. How many Italians have they brought recent years? Florenzi & Tonali. That’s about it. And 70 Belgians and almost the same amount from France.

        1. Yeah , should be more italian in squad even just for backup like Parisi or cambiasso ( Theo deputy) . 2nd Gk ( sportielo) ,3rd GK italian from academy maybe . Strefezza or orsolini ( RW to replace junior messias )

  2. I would also go for Orsolini instead of Gudmunsson.
Orsolini is on his last year of the contract and his price is around the same as what Genoa wants for Gudmunsson.
Orsolini is proven in serie A and Italian which Milan needs more of for UCL homegrown quota.
Bring in Orsolini 7 years later after Galliani didn’t have 6 mil to sign him from Ascoli and instead brought Deuolofeu on loan in his last months of being a Milan SD.

    1. Deulofeu proved to be exactly what we needed but the management was an opportunity to sign him permanently. I don’t know Gudmosson but Orsolini is not the type of upgrade we want on the right wing

    2. I agree. Strefezza is another good low-cost option IMHO, as could probably arrive for ~10m (same price quoted here). He’s also Serie A proven, with 8 goals and 3 assists with a weaker squad than Bologna. He’s also right-footed, which would add a different element to Leao who is expected to cut in and shoot (or cross) with the opposite foot. If we’re going to use a target man striker let’s at least have one winger who can offer a good cross without having to cut the ball.

    3. + 1 for Orsolini. He’s been the most consistent figures in Bologna. Moreover we desperately need someone who can takes set pieces properly. My eyes hurt everytime I see Alexis taking the corner / free kick.

  3. So, the “starting matterial” and “CL caliber” RW we are targeting is a Serie B player?

    I hope it’s just journalist rubbish…
