Report: Milan sent inquiry but Lazio midfielder rejected – the background

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan need to bolster their midfield ahead of next season amid the departure of Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer. The wish list is long and the Rossoneri have enquired about several names, including Danilo Cataldi.

Cataldi made 29 appearances for Lazio last season and playing mostly in a defensive midfield role, he got just one assist. He recently renewed his contract with the Biancocelest and seemingly has no intention of leaving.

According to the newspaper Il Tempo, as cited by Goal, Milan enquired about Cataldi’s situation recently to see if there was any scope for a negotiation. However, the 28-year-old swiftly denied the approach by saying no thanks. As evidenced by the renewal, he’s very happy at Lazio and has no intention of leaving.

Bennacer will be sidelined with an injury until the end of the season and thus it’s essential for Milan to sign a midfielder this summer. The reality is that they probably need two of them, given Tonali’s departure to Newcastle as well.

    1. So why did Sanches say no to Maldini’s charm last season after chasing him whole summer?

I can also pick and choose to suit my narrative like you

      1. PSG had people in charge Sanches was familiar with and got more money.

Cataldi? Well… I doubt the huge salary in Lazio is why he opted to say no. 😛

        1. uh huh, so why did Maldini fail to go after Enzo? He agreed terms with Moncada but your Maldini was hyper focused on freaking Sanches to even bother paying attention

You will make 10000 excuses for Maldini but anyone other than Maldini is a failure lmao

          1. You don’t know what you re saying. How is Maldini a failure. He gets you into UCL semi final with a €35 million budget and a Scudetto in the previous season, three successive UCL group stage appearance. When was the last you got to this stage and won it. In the first place why would we go for Cataldi. All the players that was linked to Milan during Maldini’s time were better than him. So terrible Cataldi does not even see any future in the current project. Are you aware there is a wage cap? I’m not sure if you want Maldini to pay Sanchez the extra salary he requested from his pocket.

          2. My Maldini? WTF are you blabbering? Just today or yesterday I was practically called a Maldini-hater for criticizing him! 😀 😀 😀

I don’t why but people loooove to label others without any justifications. I can come out in the open now and say I loved Maldini as a player. He was OK as a director. Not awful, not amazing. So… Let me say this one more time: I don’t love him and I don’t hate him as a director. I’m somewhere in between.

      2. because Milan didn’t have the money last season to sign Sanchez, the same thing happened with Botman.
Botman even wait for Milan until he know that’s not going to happen.

        1. Yes cheapbird didn’t give Maldini the money to sign Botman and renewed his contract so late in the transfer window that many targets were missed during that time. Also I like how these guys just have to make the current management’s issues into a Maldini bashing. I thought they got rid of the “problem” in Maldini 🤔, so what’s the real reason now eh 😂

          1. I guess Maldini is still in the system and spoiling new management’s chances. 😂😂😂. OR
Furlani and Moncada are so good that they are not focused on cheap/unproven players and are negotiating with Mbappe and Haaland to join Milan.

          2. That was not gonna be easy. I sense lack of direction. Milan’s midfield is destroyed. We will start the season with a whole set of midfield considering Ben will still need time to recover and get back to his best(2024); which is not gonna be easy. Tonali was the pillar of the midfield and a point of reference. I would rather sell Tomori considering Thiaw is rising to the occasion. I’m curious to know what our midfield will be made of next season because it’s not gonna be cheap and also blending them into the team

  1. Looks like Brozovic is on the verge of signing for Al Nassr so Inter will try and close the deal for Frattesi in coming week.

  2. Do you guys know if any of this unrest is getting back to the management (I don’t mean them reading a random sempremilan thread 😅)

Like, is there some fans in Milan voicing their opinion, or protesting at the ground? Basically does Gerry the Snake know that of all the players to sell, Tonali was gonna be one of the absolute most unpopular to let go? And that even if he wanted to get rid of Maldini, to do so unceremoniously to a club legend could well destabilise the dressing room?

I feel like for all the fan frustration, Cardinale is sipping cognac surrounded by Yes Men telling him things are going great. Whereas I’d want signs up all of social media and in Milan calling him an absolute clown. At least let him know how unpopular he is

    1. He doesn’t care. If you listened to his interviews or read the transcript, he literally said his plan is to own SMALL CLUBS and place from 6th to 11th spot and spend less than anyone. He also said he will never go and buy one of the big clubs like Chelsea… Literally thinks Milan is a small club. 😀

    2. Yes he knows, but he couldn’t care less for the fans or the club. He is here for business. Ac Milan page is overfloded by fans calling him out. It would be imposible to miss all of that, but he just dose not care. However the fans have a different strategy now and are calling for a compleate boycot if things don’t change. Don’t buy anything from Milan brand, don’t buy tickets, boycot games etc. Basicly make Redbird lose money. The only thing they care about.

    3. You twitter fans are like less than 10% of the total fanbase, get your stick off your arse. Most people dont login to complain 24/7

  3. Milan has turned into the devine comedy unfortunately not funny for the fans as we are in the 8th circle of hell,

      1. haha fair enough but truth be told they have really messed up things recently and my hope is rather dwindling by mow.

        1. yes, seems like a mess atm.
they got a less than 2 months to tidy up and build a competitive squad for 23/24.

          1. Im willing to see how it pans out the following months but its currently looks bleak from my standpoint.
If this transfer window turns out horrible and we for example also sells theo then cardinale should pack his suitcase because i doubt the local fans will stand by seeing him destroying the team for his own gain,

  4. Why would he even leave? They were in front of Milan last season, he is a key player and has a great coach. What, Milan offered a “project” (whatever that stupid shi. means) and 500k per month less wages? 😀

  5. Really!!!, This is just agents storing the plot or trying to show Milan is struggling to get players!!!

This boy would never get into our first 11 or even the 22 man squad and he knows that!! as do we all if we just stop hating on the management for a minute

  6. This news bears no weight, neither positive nor negative. Why were we trying to inquire about this guy anyway? Furlani has nothing better to do or something with his time? lol

  7. Bunch of ungrateful bastard.Maldini is the club legend and he already show he take milan to good direction even things dont work well this season
