Reports: Kerkez is Benfica-bound but Milan will not receive a penny

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems as though Milos Kerkez will soon make the move from AZ Alkmaar to Benfica, continuing his rise after leaving AC Milan.

Kerkez was brought in by the Rossoneri in February of 2021 and the feeling was that he would become the deputy to Theo Hernandez in time, but he did not make an appearance for the first team and played with the Primavera.

He decided to depart for AZ in the Eredivisie and sparked some controversy on Twitter after the move as he published a rather distasteful message to Milan, which he quickly deleted.

The Hungarian has since spoken about his time at Milan and claimed that he was doing well, but after a discussion with his father he was persuaded to move to the Netherlands for regular first team football.

As MilanNews reports, this morning’s edition of Record in Portugal has the following headline: ‘Kerkez with his heart already in Benfica’. Negotiations are ongoing between Rui Costa’s club and AZ Alkmaar to sign the left-back, with an agreement imminent.

However, any notion that Milan might benefit from the move through either some bonuses or a sell-on clause has been denied, with Daniele Longo of claiming that the Rossoneri did not include any such clauses as part of the sale.

  1. Seems like we recruited well but he did t want to stay..what a shame because he was perfect on the left. But I wonder if he would have grown with less playing time.
That said, I thought Man Utd was interested in him

  2. @Rico and IKWYDLS, the main reason for his departure was the signing of Theo. The boy and his father rightfully wanted playing time. If he is as talented as he is supposed to be it would do him no good to sit on the bench or to be going out on a series of loans to different clubs every season at this critical stage of his career. He made the right choice. On our end we can’t lament this as we have Theo. It would be unfair for us to expect talent to just agree to be a sub or to agree to the uncertainty of perpetual loans.
