Repubblica: Ibrahimovic ‘like a sporting director’ during Empoli win – the background

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Italy in the last few days after spending the festive period in the United States, and he saw his first victory since rejoining AC Milan.

This morning’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews) talks about Ibrahimovic’s first victory as an executive at Milan, remarking that he ‘acted like a sporting director’ at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

It was the Swede’s first victory seen in person since being officially appointed as a Senior Advisor for RedBird Capital and the AC Milan management, and he was like a sporting director yesterday as per the paper.

Firstly he travelled with the team via train, then he had dinner at a table with the technical director Geoffrey Moncada and the actual sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio, he followed the warm-ups on the sidelines, encouraged the players one by one as they left for the changing rooms, took a seat in the stands and returned to Milan with the team.

Ibrahimovic’s debut in the new role of Senior Advisor took place in Salerno before Christmas, but on that occasion it was a disappointing 2-2 draw against a team who were (and still are) bottom of the table.

Yesterday, however, the Rossoneri secure a comfortable 3-0 victory against another struggling side, but this one seems to suggest they have put the difficult moment behind them.
