There is plenty that divides AC Milan and Inter, but away from the pitch there is also one major project that unites the two clubs.
There will be fierce rivalry on the pitch on Sunday night, but Milan and Inter are ready to collaborate on the new stadium. As today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall, the two clubs have signed the deed for the acquisition of the San Siro stadium and surrounding areas for €197m.
More and more intertwined
Since then, the relationship between the two clubs has become even more intertwined at the management level, with presidents Paolo Scaroni and Giuseppe Marotta updating each other daily on the progress of the bureaucratic aspect.
Construction on the new home for the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri is expected to begin in 2027, with the hope of completing the new stadium in 2031, in time for the 2032 European Championships. The clubs have entrusted the stadium project to the Foster and Manica design studios.
The total cost is estimated at between €1.2-1.5bn, of which €800,000 will be for the new stadium alone. It will have a capacity of approximately 71,500 seats, and Scaroni recently spoke about how the stadium will be built in a ‘vertical’ way, to keep fans close to the pitch.
