AC Milan have what it takes to go on and win the Scudetto yet again this season and thus to earn a second star on their shirt, according to Gianni Rivera.
Milan managed to upset the bookmakers last season as they won their first league title in 11 years thanks to an excellent late season run that saw them overtake and then hold off the pressure from city rivals Inter.
However, the challenge this season will be two-fold as Milan must not only try to retain the title of being champions of Italy but they must balance that with trying to go further in Europe too after a disappointing return to the Champions League in 2021-22.
Rivera gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning and he was asked about the prospects of his former side heading into the new campaign, with his comments relayed by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it.
“Milan can win [the title], of course. In May they celebrated with merit, with the awards to be shared between the club, the coach and the players,” he said.
“Each victory has a meaning. As for Milan, this second star could have arrived earlier but something clearly went wrong. As a Milan fan I hope that the disappointments for Inter and Juventus will continue.”
