Romano: Man Utd send scouts to ‘follow Leao’ and ‘other Milan players’

Rafael Leao is attracting interest from the big clubs on the transfer market and AC Milan are working hard to renew his contract. In addition to Chelsea, Manchester United are also monitoring the situation, a report claims.

The Portuguese winger was the best player in Serie A last season and he has continued to do well this campaign as well. He has four goals and eight assists to his name already and Milan are working on renewing his contract, set to expire in 2024.

Inevitably, several big clubs are monitoring his situation and Chelsea have been heavily linked with him since the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The United Stand, Man Utd have joined the Stamford Bridge side in the race.

He stated that Man Utd have ‘sent their scouts to follow Leao and other Milan players’ in recent weeks. He also added that the £60-70m price tag that has floated around in the media isn’t the real price tag as the Rossoneri keep referring to the €150m release clause.

It remains to be seen what the interest will result in, but it’s also clear that Milan are negotiating with Jorge Mendes over the renewal. As we have learned, an offer worth €5m per season plus part payment of the €19m Sporting fine is in the pipeline.
