Saelemaekers admits Cremonese draw ‘is like a defeat’ for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers has claimed that the draw against Cremonese last night feels like a defeat after the team dropped more points in the league.

Milan played out yet another frustrating home game at San Siro as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cremonese. It was a game that followed a very familiar trend whereby Milan struggled to break down an opponent who sat in a low block.

The Grigiorossi were in fact not far away from winning the game following David Okereke’s goal on the counter late in the second half. However, the Rossoneri did get a late equaliser when Rade Krunic flicked in a free-kick from Junior Messias.

Saelemaekers spoke to Milan TV after the game to try and assess what was a difficult night for the Rossoneri, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“In my opinion we started the match well. In the first half we had the right mentality, we had chances including mine. In the second half we lowered the pace a bit, we had to go faster and we missed some clear chances. We did badly for the goal, but the draw is a small positive note. But today this result is like a defeat for us,” he said.

What is missing at the moment?

“I think maybe the killer attitude and mentality in front of goal. But we created some chances anyway. We need to work on this aspect for the next matches.”

A match against Lazio follows…

“We approach each match with the right mentality, we want to give everything on the pitch. Each match is different from the next but we must always put our heart into it and we will do it again this weekend.”
