Saelemaekers admits Milan must ‘get back to work’ and replicate reverse fixture vs. Lazio

By Isak Möller -

Milan failed to beat Sassuolo at San Siro this evening despite taking the lead through Hakan Calhanoglu, conceding twice in the second half. Three very important points dropped in the Champions League race.

Several Rossoneri players could have done better this evening but there were also a few that did quite well. Alexis Saelemaekers was one of the latter and he got a 6.5/10 in our ratings, also providing the assist for Calhanoglu’s goal.

The Belgian came close to scoring himself but was denied by Andrea Consigli in goal. In an interview with MilanTV after the game, as cited by MilanNews, he spoke about what went wrong for his side and on the Lazio clash up next.

“We missed the second goal. We worked hard for 75 minutes trying to win the game, we then lacked clarity in the final 15 minutes, as well as having a bit of bad luck. Now we have to get back to work for the next very important matches.”

“We know that big games are important for us and we want to show that we are a strong team. We will try to do it against Lazio and against all the other rivals. We have to do as we did in the first leg, hoping to get the three points.”

As mentioned, the Rossoneri will take on Lazio next and their schedule from here isn’t looking that easy, which is why the loss today hurts even more. Hopefully, they can pull through despite the tight race.
