MN: Saelemaekers completes first start after injury – first choice right flank is close

By Oliver Fisher -

Alexis Saelemaekers marked his return to the starting line-up after his injury with a great goal and a bright performance against Liverpool yesterday.

MilanNews writes how yesterday’s match against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Dubai Super Cup was a great demonstration of the fact Saelemaekers is feeling good again having recovered from the injury to his knee he sustained against Empoli back on 1 October.

He was one of the best players on the pitch for Stefano Pioli’s side showing his technical ability in the final third, work rate in both phases and scoring Milan’s only goal of the game after cutting inside and firing into the far corner having fooled Andrew Robertson.

While waiting for Davide Calabria to return to being 100%, Milan have recovered a fundamental element for the right flank. After the stop due to the partial lesion of his medial collateral ligament, the Belgian made his return in Tuesday’s match against Arsenal, but the start against Liverpool was a key step.

Having finished his commitments at the training camp in Dubai, Saelemaekers will have until the 30th (when Milan play PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion) to continue the useful training sessions to improve his condition.
