Saelemaekers happy after ‘intense’ game: “In Europe, different football is played”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers was happy to get his name on the scoresheet again as he netted the equaliser in tonight’s draw against Red Bull Salzburg.

As has been the theme so far for Milan on their travels this season, the attack never really fully clicked as they spurned opportunities to put their hosts in danger. However, they did battle from behind after Okafor had put Salzburg in front.

It was Saelemaekers who got the goal but it was made by Charles De Ketelaere and Rafael Leao, with the latter getting the assist for a dangerous cut-back which left the Belgian the easy task of settling himself and firing in from deep inside the box.

Saelemaekers was interviewed by Sky in the minutes after the full time whistle to get his reaction to scoring the first goal of the Champions League campaign and also to the performance as a whole, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

“I am happy with the goal, it was an intense match. We had a good game. In Europe, different football is played, but we are strong and we must be strong in Europe too,” he said.

On his performance: “At the beginning it was a bit difficult, but now I feel good. I hope to continue like this.”

On the targets for the Champions League: “Let’s think about one match at a time and then see where we are going. We want to do something good.”
