Scalvini admits to being inspired by ex-Milan star and previews battle with Giroud

Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini has admitted to being inspired by former AC Milan defender Thiago Silva, while he also previewed tonight’s clash.

At 19 years old, Scalvini has been one of the most impressive young defenders in the league and the feeling is that the time might soon come to leave Atalanta, but for now he is one of their leaders despite his age.

Scalvini spoke on Radio Serie A in view of the match against Milan at the Gewiss Stadium tonight, and he spoke about drawing inspiration from a former Rossoneri defender.

“I have always been inspired by Thiago Silva. I remember when he played here in Italy for Milan: I was still little , but I already watched a lot of football,” he said (via MilanNews).

In fact, I remember him: I liked him a lot as a defender, I liked his presence on the pitch. Maybe in those parts where we don’t look alike, I have to try to take something from him like his leadership, his presence and his personality.”

Tonight will see Scalvini come up against Olivier Giroud who is yet to score against Atalanta, but Rafael Leao will not be present as he has not made the trip with the rest of the squad.

“I only played 10-15 minutes two years ago against Rafael Leao, but seeing him up close the thing that strikes you is that tear he has in the first meters when he extends the ball.

“Olivier Giroud is a very important player for Milan, because he gives very central reference in attack. We will have to defend very well as a unit: if we can help each other, we can contain it well.”

It was actually reported in Spain that Milan have set their sights on Scalvini of Atalanta and he is considered a main target in the 2024 summer transfer window, though his asking price is likely very high.

  1. If we don’t go in a 3 man def idk what’s the point in signing him. We need a left footed cb. That’s why they went after bootman and are looking at kiwior and kelly and badiashile

  2. I’d prefer milan to sign him as a starter along side thiaw and lower the defence line. Clearly the high line tactic with fast centrebacks that won us the scudetto has been found out. If any EPL club (MU clearly needs a new CB) offers big crazy money for Tomori, just accept it and run.
