MN: Scan confirms fears regarding Maignan’s calf – new check scheduled for two weeks

By Oliver Fisher -

Bad news has emerged after Mike Maignan underwent a scan to see how the healing of his calf muscle is progressing, a report claims.

The situation surrounding Maignan has been as strange as it has been frustrating. He suffered an initial calf problem back in September and then looked set to return for the game against Monza at San Siro, but suffered a new calf issue that has kept him out since.

There was speculation that the 27-year-old might recover in time to play a part in the France squad for the World Cup in Qatar but he failed a late fitness test and thus was not summoned, however it did seem certain he would be available for Milan’s first game back after the break against Salernitana on January 4.

Doubts then arose in Dubai regarding the state of his muscle, and MilanNews write that the scans he has undergone show how his calf is not yet fully healed. The results are ‘not yet stable enough’ to allow further progression of this recovery work, so a new assessment will be made in two weeks.

  1. Something is definitely not working. Too many players are suffering muscle problems, especially with the calf. It happens only in Pioli’s era.

    1. A goalkeeper’s training/movements are not the same as out field players. It’s very rare for this type of injury to happen to a GK and for it to take this long to heal. Still, WTF is going on here? Mike is going to end up being out for like 2/3 of the season. This is a huge hit to our title hopes.

        1. So you know for a fact that the injury wasn’t caused – or even influenced – by the Milanello pitch? Please do share you source of information and tell us more on HOW Maignan got injured. There wasn’t ANY prior stress on the muscle before it teared? How do you know? Mike never said anything to you about a “discomfort or weird feelings on his calf?” 🙂

You do realize that not all injuries come as a lightning from a clear sky? They can come due to faulty training or flawed conditions too.

  2. “Nope. Constant injury worries have started way before Pioli’s time. It’s the Milanello pitch. I’m sure.”

Could it be? So why not relay the goddamned pitch, or something like that?

  3. Damn, Maignan is great goal keeper but missing 2 or 3 months every year is big trouble! I can’t recall Dida or Abbiati being injured and absent for so long and so often… Actually, I can’t recall any first choice goal keeper of AC Milan who has been injured and absent so much like Maignan is…
