Scaroni admits Milan and Inter are ‘reflecting’ on capacity for new stadium

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni once again spoke about the new stadium that the Milanese clubs hope to build and more specifically about the capacity.

The plans for Milan and Inter to build a new stadium have been known for some time now, and an important phase has commenced as the public debate has gotten underway, with the clubs looking for the go-ahead before the end of the calendar year.

One of the more contentious points has been regarding how many seats the new stadium will have, as some fans and experts have expressed surprise at the idea of having a capacity lower than the current San Siro, given that it often sells out.

Scaroni took part in the BMW event at Milanello today, the Automotive Partner and Premium Partner of Milan, and he spoke about the new stadium and focused in particular on the issue of the possible reduced capacity compared to that of San Siro.

“This is an element that will be defined in detail only in the executive planning phase that will follow the public debate. We have not decided anything yet, we are reflecting on a capacity between 60 and 70 thousand seats,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

“What is a fixed point for us is that we want to make two tiers and not three, for various reasons, in particular for the fact that from the third tier you don’t see the matches well. We are in a phase of reasoning and we are encouraged in our choices by the fact that the stadium is fuller than usual this season.”
