Scaroni addresses rumour of Cardinale-Zhang talks and how to close gap with Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has addressed the notion that Gerry Cardinale and Steven Zhang are in talks over a joint stadium, as well as the mission to catch up to Inter on the field.

Milan have a big chance to take a step forward in their Serie A campaign tonight against Monza by not only continuing their good form but also jumping above Juventus into second, after having been seven points behind them just a few weeks ago.

Scaroni spoke to DAZN just before kick-off at the U-Power Stadium to preview what is an important night for the team, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

What are your thoughts on the current moment?

“We are happy with the signings we have made and with who was there before. The team is giving us a lot of satisfaction.”

According to the latest from ANSA, in recent weeks there have been two discussions between Milan and Inter regarding the new stadium after the ‘new San Siro project’ was abandoned despite the Council’s attempts to save the situation.

They claim that Cardinale called Zhang – Inter’s number one – in mid-January and asked him to potentially reconsider the idea of a joint project on the stadium front.

Have there been talks between Cardinale and Zhang over the stadium?

“The news is that we have bought the land to build the stadium in San Donato. Contacts between the owners continue to exist, but no news. There is the possibility of carrying out a renovation on San Siro.

“It’s not that I’m not in favour of San Siro, it’s that it’s old and I asked myself how to renovate it while the teams are playing. We would need to move, but unfortunately we don’t have stadiums nearby that have a capacity similar to San Siro.

“Webuild saw the ground and the stadium and they wrote a letter that doesn’t reassure me very much as it is full of ifs and buts. we are ready to consider restructuring if someone gives us the certainty of continuing to play, until then we move forward with a new system.

“We have nothing against San Siro. We are moving forward with the San Donato hypothesis, we consider the rest an exception. Then if we get a new proposal we take it into consideration.”

What is the plan to close the gap with Inter?

“I am a company man and I look at Milan as such. Our objective is to qualify for the Champions League and it seems to me that we are on the right path.

“Then we will set ourselves new objectives for next season and we will announce them. We closed 2022-23 in profit and this is the premise for going to the market with the means to make important decisions.”

Are Milan in the Scudetto race?

“It would be one more objective than our strategies. We will fight to the last minute to reach the highest points total possible. Every match is a final for us.”

  1. When was the last time we won a game by changing half of starting XI?
    NEVER
    When Pioli learns balance?
    NEVER

Thiaw did this stupidity against Inter on purpose, he purposefully tackled Kean and got red card against Juve…. He is doing it again lol. He doesn’t really respect his teammates at all.

What is logically easy? Playing with best players against Monza and win the game and draw against Juve or play with second squad and lose to Monza and try to win against Juve in their stadium?
I would choose this game over Juve but somehow Pioli wants to complicate his task (as always)

And fu**k you and ur mama user @Boulden

  2. Thought it was fake news but it seems Cardinale did try to persuade Chinese to share the investment. I knew that yank bit off more than he can chew when buying the club.
