AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has insisted the club can only compete with a modern stadium, and also gave an update on the actual design for the project.
There was an interesting development this morning regarding Milan and Inter’s plan to build a new stadium as it was reported the existing ‘Cathedral’ design from Populous will be altered to feature more of an oval shape.

Milan and Inter are moving full steam ahead to build a stadium with a capacity of 60-65,000 that is about 30 metres high with two tiers and to option it in time for the 2027-28 season. San Siro will be demolished at a cost of €50m and replaced in 2030 by a three-storey tower with shopping centre, offices, a large green area and ‘The Citadel’ dedicated to grassroots sports.
Scaroni spoke during an interview with Mediaset and answered further questions on the new stadium project, stressing the importance of it becoming a reality, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.
“We can only compete with a modern stadium. The Cathedral project remains in pole position, but there could be another architectural solution if it were needed,” he said.
“As the Council has taken the time it needed, we too evaluate all possible solutions and we take time for any other choices. San Siro demolished? The memory of the stadium was made by Inter and Milan.”
