Scaroni declares new stadium as ‘fundamental’ for Milan and Inter in dig aimed at Serie A

By Oliver Fisher -

The only time we seem to hear much from AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni is when he talks about the new stadium project, and he has done so again today.

It seems that after a lot of bureaucracy and obstacles to overcome, the general consensus among the main sources is that there is progress being made between Milan, Inter and the City Council over a new stadium.

Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous are the two competing firms trying to land the project, with both Milanese clubs absolutely intent on constructing a new state of the art stadium in order to try and bridge the gap to Europe’s elite, who get much higher revenues from having their own grounds.

Scaroni spoke to the news outlet ‘Gr Parliament’ about the new stadium project and just why it is so important for Milan and for their neighbours Inter.

“The new stadium in Milan is fundamental for the sporting performances of Milan and Inter. If you want to have teams that compete in Europe, you need to have stadiums that compete in Europe, which are therefore the same or better than those of the other teams with which we compete,” he said (via MilanNews).

“But I go further, the whole Serie A will be able to regain the primacy it had only if we equip ourselves with high-level sports infrastructure, which is not happening and has not happened unlike all the others. Sala asked us for great sacrifices, we accepted them to start building the new stadium as soon as possible.”
