Scaroni ‘optimistic’ about potential comeback ahead of ‘magical’ derby

President Paolo Scaroni believes that AC Milan can come back tonight against Inter as he spoke ahead of a ‘magical’ derby at San Siro.

Milan must overcome a two-goal deficit if they are to reach the Champions League final, with Edin Dzeko scoring from a corner and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also netting as Inter went 2-0 up inside the opening 11 minutes.

Despite a positive start to the second 45 and with Sandro Tonali hitting the post, there was to be no goal for Milan to cling on for and they are now left hoping for a minor miracle.

The build-up to that game was dominated by Rafael Leao and whether he would recover from an adductor problem in time to start on the left wing and it was the same tonight. He did not play last week, but he is fit enough to start this evening.

Scaroni spoke to Sky before the game against the Nerazzurri, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“The atmosphere of this derby is magical. I like fans who have a friendly attitude, which is not a given in derbies,” he said.

Are you optimistic? “I have to be optimistic otherwise this gives me some anxiety. We won 4-0 in Naples, who would have thought it. Tonight we have Leao, which we didn’t have the other night.”

Prediction? “Well, that we win. But don’t ask me for score and scorers (laughs).”
