Scaroni explains importance of balance between sporting and economic results for Milan

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has highlighted the constant growth that the club have had since his arrival, and also spoke about the financial situation.

Interviewed on Radio Anchi’io Sport, Scaroni spoke about the results that Milan have obtained on the field and how that has been balanced with the economic situation, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I became president of Milan in 2018 and we made a truly fantastic progression. We arrived in the Europa League in 2019-20, in the Champions League in 2020-21, last season we won the league and now, after so many years, we’re in the semi-finals of the Champions League,” he said.

Calcio e Finanza reported in March thatMilan should close the 2022-23 accounts with a loss of around €25m, which is less than half what they were in 2021-22 (€66.5m) and nearly a quarter of the €96.4m losses made in 2019-20.

Scaroni acknowledged that while there is still a lot of work to do, the strides being taken are very much positive ones in view of the financial health of the club.

“We can be very satisfied with the sporting results, but also with the economic results which are starting to give us satisfaction too. I am of the opinion that if you don’t get economic results, it will be difficult to achieve the sporting ones,” he said.

“This year’s goal is to have a positive balance sheet. Our turnover has increased a lot, we will exceed 350 million. Our revenues are growing, I really hope it will be the year in which our figures will be positive. The last time Milan had a result positive was 2006, really many years ago.”

Milan knocked Napoli out of the Champions League last month to reach the quarter-finals, but there is no doubting that the Partenopei have been the pace setters in Serie A this season with their Scudetto win now imminent.

“They’ve had phenomenal results from both points of view. Sporting but also economic, they had a transfer campaign last summer in which they actually had a negative net spend.

“They made some formidable signings, they have a very good coach  I congratulate Aurelio De Laurentiis, he’s the one who managed this whole operation, starting from when he bought Napoli many years ago, when he was relegated to bankruptcy.”
