Schira: Giroud rejected huge contract offer from Saudi club to stay at Milan

AC Milan will head into the new season with Olivier Giroud as their starting centre-forward, but things could have been a lot different had he been open to moving to Saudi Arabia.

Giroud scored 14 goals in 2021-22 after his arrival from Chelsea and was a crucial component of the Rossoneri’s triumphal ride towards their 19 Scudetto, netting crucial winners against Inter and Napoli among others.

Last season he scored 18 goals including five in the Champions League, with Milan clinching a semi-final berth for the first time since the 2006-07  season.

The centre-forward has shown his love for Milan on several occasions publicly, and it seems his words also translate to actions based on what has happened this summer.

According to journalist Nicolò Schira, around two months ago an Arab club – specifically from the PIF Fund – offered the 36-year-old a €12m per year contract until 2025, with an option for an additional year.

The Frenchman, however, made it clear that he is happy at Milan and that the money is not as important to him as playing for one of Europe’s biggest and most historic clubs.

  1. Yes Giroud is a real pro ..He still has that wow factor, and is so proud to be playing for AC Milan
Let’s have a good season Olivier …I know you are still capable ,,,for us and indeed your country France .
Don’t hang up you boots yet ..Your club and country needs you .

  2. I don’t mind him and we do need to keep him. Yes, he’s not the quickest and is past perhaps his best, but he still has a part to play in this project and is a professional player. He has an impact on this team on and off the pitch.

  3. It’s very fantastic. 12m euros per year for 36 years old is very rare. He will not found that opportunity again next time.

From this, i conclude that Giroud is a true footballer with very high passion for Football. He want always on of top competition, not top earning.
