Schira: Maldini has renewal of full-back high on his agenda – well-earned pay rise planned

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has the renewal of Davide Calabria on his list of things to tackle over the summer, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by Nicolo Schira on Twitter, Maldini will soon get to the renewal of Calabria whose contract is expiring in 2022, with the Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu situations showing that it is always better to act ahead of time.

The full-back was one of the stars of the Rossoneri’s fantastic season, recovering from a rollercoaster campaign in 2019-20 and imposing himself as the starter in Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1. That’s why the parties will meet soon to discuss the renewal of his current contract and it is expected that a well-deserved pay rise will be part of the agreement. With Kessie’s renewal also to be discussed, it seems Paolo Maldini is acting to try and preserve the core of the squad for the future.

  1. Calabria has been really good this season. Can’t imagine what he could have done with a coach like Klopp. He’s one of the best in Europe 1 vs 1. Can make attacking runs, has footballing sense, has a nack of scoring goals. He needs a little assurance and he’ll be a legend. Also he gave the middle finger to Inter.
