Schira: Milan have ‘postponed’ final decision on centre-back amid expiring deal

By Oliver Fisher -

Simon Kjaer’s future with AC Milan remains uncertain as he is on an expiring contract and the club have put off talks, according to a journalist.

The former Sevilla and Atalanta defender has just over three months left on his current, but the discussion to extend his stay has not brought any real developments, or at least none that the media have picked up on.

As reported this morning by Nicolò Schira on his X profile, Milan have postponed the final decision regarding Kjaer’s future until May. The Dane has every intention of staying with the Rossoneri and renewing, at least for another year.

At the moment, however, the management have not yet presented any offer to the 34-year-old, so the renewal discussion is at a standstill. In the current season, Kjaer has made a total of 22 appearances across all competitions.

In the event of a failure to reach an agreement over an extension or that an offer was not made, it is almost certain that the Rossoneri would try to bring in a replacement for the experienced central defender.

Milan were linked with a number of players in that role during the January window and have been since too, which may be an indication of sorts.

    1. You can have a backup CB from the youth team (ala Simic) or buy an emerging 20 year old that won’t cost you a place in the lists. Kjaer at this point is being treated at the same level as a backup of backup.

This is all about programming, in case of injuries Kjaer cannot be a backup. Leaving aside the fact that he’s also very prone to injuries, he cannot play 2 full 90 minute games in 3 days.

It hurts me to say this, but from what he’s shown this year, his time at Milan is at an end.
Our management should come to the same conclusion.

I feel that between Kjaer, Kalulu’s injuries, Marco Pellegrino having bad performances, Thiaw’s screw-ups and a possible big offer coming for Tomori, we’re going to have a massive change in defense next year.

  1. I am torn between letting him go to have a new adventure or continuing another year. I love Kjaer, but his form isn’t what it used to be. I do understand the argument of having a backup CB.

  2. I love Kjaer but I prefer Acmilan to make a perfect decision like selling thiaw and tomori then sign only one defender all allow Kjaer to continue to partner Gabbia because he has experience I saw how he used to intercept and defend he is far better than tomori and Kjaer perfect no mistake

    1. You want to sell Thiaw and Tomori and keep Kjaer? You’re out of your mind. Kjaer has made many errors in recent days. Tomori has been our best defender recently, along with Gabbia.

      1. We can do a lot of cash between Tomori and Thiaw, specially the latest, as imo Kjaer still doing great, he isn’t faster but his timing is perfect, we have Gabbia and Kalulu to run and a proper buy in the position will allow us to be safe.
