Schira: Monza in ‘advanced talks’ with Milan over permanent Maldini signing

By Isak Möller -

Daniel Maldini has done very well since joining Monza on loan in January, with the club now keen on keeping him permanently. Talks are ongoing with AC Milan and it seems an agreement will be reached, according to a journalist.

Maldini decided to cut his loan at Empoli short due to a lack of playing time, immediately signing for Monza on a six-month loan instead. Since joining Raffaele Palladino’s side, he has bagged four goals and one assist, with a few of those being important goals.

According to Nico Schira, Monza are currently in advanced talks with Milan over a permanent deal. There is also a contract until 2028 ready for the player to sign, which would make him a fundamental part of the Monza side.

Daniele Longo has previously reported that Milan could accept a fee of around €5m, which would be a total capital gain for the club. It remains to be seen if the season finale can change anything, but it seems Maldini himself also is keen on making the move permanent.

Monza will take on Fiorentina on Monday evening and although Maldini has done well, he might not start in that game. Monza have no doubts about the future, though, very keen on securing his services.

    1. Why? Just means he’s on Monza lvl. If he does come 2 Milan lvl in his career, I’m sure something can be done about it.. besides his brothers aren’t legacy either… crying about them?

  1. If it’s true then it’s a very bad move, apart from the legacy aspect, he is a player with quality both technically and tactically, and with a good physique, at least they should have waited to see how he would fair with the new coach, who would look at him properly and given an assessment, I just hope their is a buy back option for him

  2. Between Milan, Spezia, Empoli and now Monza, Daniel Maldini has played a total of 1391 minutes in serie A.
He will be 23 when next season starts.
He isn’t even starting for Monza.
But we will have people losing their mind over his sale.
Just like they were losing their mind when Milan loaned out Chaka Traore to a serie B team with 10 mil option to buy. Chaka Traore has played a total of whopping 186 minutes for a serie B team ans he will be back in June.
Take his last name away and no one will be talking about him.

  3. Got to cut all Maldini ties. Cardinale’s ego is fragile and he’s desperate to burn all the bridges with the past and build his own legacy on the pile of ashes.

He’s like that desperate emperor Commodus from movie Galdiator. No matter what he does, Maldini will always be bigger than him.

  4. Wow, a $5m capital gain!?

And all Milan had to do was ruin the development of a world class junior talent, who also happened to be third generation royalty at the club.

Maybe they could get $10m for Camarda in 5 years time. Wouldn’t that be ace?!

If CDK did last year what Maldini has done off the bench in his 300 odd minutes at the second club he has gone to on loan this season, people would be going wild.

Hell it’s taken RLC 1,700 more minutes for 3 more contributions in the league. We could count the stat padding against Stade Rennais and Slavia Prague but that would be disingenuous.

Hopefully RLC can make a go of it as a regista next season in place of Adli.

    1. World class junior talent?
He is couple months short of being 23. Everywhere else talents start for the first team at 17,18, only in Italy a bench player for a mid table club, who is 23 is considered a world class talent.
      Milan ruined his development?
Wasn’t his father the technical director up until 11 months ago? Did he run his development too by keeping him at Milan instead of loaning him out when he was 18 or 19?
Neither Daniel nor Colombo are starters at 11th place team in serie A. They both barely get any minutes there but they supposedly could play for Milan.

        1. I said ‘world class junior talent’, dips**t.

That is clearly a reference to his Primavera days. Hence, my reference to Camarda.

But we didn’t have to buy him, at the same time his agent was releasing stories to the media about how good he was, so you’re not interested…because you’re so smart.

          1. Yeah. And that is why you’re stupid. 100% naturally..

World class junior talent.. I haven’t read something so stupid in a few days. I mean i read stupid shît from people on here every day, but sometimes a snowflake pops up that really takes the spotlight..

  5. It will be better for daniel Maldini to go to the club and fans who support/develops and love him than some shitty fans.

  6. Regardless of his family name, it’s personally sad when our homegrown talent is leaving. I don’t like it when any of them left, from Locatelli to Cutrone to even Gigio etc (just to name the recent ones), but I’m well aware that it’s just part and parcel of life sometimes.

Would really love to see him flying the flag of our club for a little while longer, but at the same time, I understand that probably he isn’t at the level of our starting line up yet – and it’s nonsensical just to make room for anyone because of their last name.

Daniel also rejected the chance to represent Venezuela as he is working towards earning Italian caps instead. This alone makes me think that at least this guy got guts, willing to work hard and bide his time and earn his place.

I’ll lament his departure but at the same time I sincerely wish that we could have a better ending. In another era, perhaps he would still be with us – even if just as a squad member.
