Serafini believes Milan must ‘change trajectory’ in Champions League amid dire record

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan failed to get revenge on Chelsea mid-week as the English side claimed a comfortable win at San Siro. While it wasn’t without controversy, the Rossoneri have some thinking to do as pointed out by Luca Serafini.

Stefano Pioli’s men struggled in the game especially since Fikayo Tomori was sent off after just 18 minutes. The decision has been heavily debated since and most believe that the referee made an error, which effectively cost Milan the game.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, MilanTV pundit Luca Serafini discussed the situation in the Champions League. He stated that while the Atletico Madrid and Chelsea games could (and perhaps should) have ended differently, the numbers speak for themselves.

Since returning to the competition, Milan have collected 9 points out of 30, winning just two of the games and losing six. It’s simply not enough and the Rossoneri need to change their trajectory in terms of intensity, ferocity, and attention.

Serafini also mentioned Inter’s game against Barcelona as an example, as the Nerazzurri were able to get four important points by at least matching the intensity, even if it isn’t always brilliant. Milan know how to do it domestically and must start in Champions League as well.

  1. I think the problem in this season’s tactic is CDK, which is more attacking-minded player. So when he plays, the pivots have too many burden : carry the left defend (Theo often go forward) & CDK go more attacking. We need Yacine Adli’s style who might drop deeper as AMC. And i think it’s OK if CDK go RW as ACM’s wingers allowed to go high. Yes CDK has no speed like Leao, but he might be the wide playmaker or wide trequartista (like Ronaldinho’s & Messi’s role at Barcelona). If the gravity could go to RW, it might allow Leao & Theo have more room at LW to attack.

  2. Inter is more defensive style than ACM. This is the risk to play attacking but we are much more weaker side. All the plans didn’t go well.

And Chelsea is much more improved Inter playing-style.
