Serafini urges fans to back Milan: “You can’t and shouldn’t give up in November”

By Oliver Fisher -

Journalist Luca Serafini has urged AC Milan fans not to give up on the current side despite their recent rut, recalling the wins earlier in the season that made everyone believe.

Milan entertain Fiorentina at San Siro tomorrow night in dire need of three points to end a four-game winless run in the league, and they will hope to feed off the energy of a sold-out home crowd like they were able to do in the Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.

With Inter playing Juventus (albeit from a position of eight points away) and with two more home games to come after Saturday, this is a crucial week that could mark a turning point in the season, as long as the Rossoneri deliver to the levels everyone knows they are capable of.

During his latest column for MilanNews, Serafini spoke about the upcoming game against Fiorentina and the current point in the season, which he insists is far from a lost cause for Milan.

“… Contrary to what happens here and there, the people of San Siro and the large crowd of unshakeables believe it right to the end, he never gives up and that’s what they would like the team to do,” he began.

“That call under the Curva at the final whistle in Lecce (as happened in La Spezia last season) goes beyond a request for explanation, it goes beyond a protest or, if anything, incitement. Like it or not, it is the claim to share a goal, it is the manifestation of a dismay that must belong in the dressing room exactly as in the stands.

“Because reading here and there, hearing and listening, it almost seems like it’s already time to get rid of it. The coach is gone, transfer market in January, flop of this and that, season compromised and therefore unsuccessful. There’s a month left until Christmas…

“I don’t give up now , I don’t give up today, here. I want to find the team that won 7 out of 8 games in the opening games of the championship and return to play and win a derby from Milan. I want to find the team that plays 3 sumptuous matches out of 4 in the Champions League, that dominates in Naples and Lecce, instead burying and forgetting that team that doesn’t even score a goal in Newcastle and Dortmund and that gets picked up and beaten in Naples and Lecce.

“Injuries or not, it’s up to you. You can’t close your doors in November, you shouldn’t throw away your keys in November, you can’t and shouldn’t give up in November. It is not foreseen by the history of the club, it is not foreseen by the love of the fans.”
