Mike Maignan had a fantastic first season with AC Milan and managed to prove the doubters wrong, replacing Gigio Donnarumma between the sticks. Serginho, the former Rossoneri man, has praised the Frenchman.
Not many thoughts that Milan would be able to properly replace Donnarumma, who decided to leave on a free transfer last summer. However, they managed to do it and their solution, namely Maignan, ended up being the better option financially as well.
In an interview with Tuttosport, as cited by SempreMilan.it, former Milan man Serginho was asked about the development of Maignan. He made sure to highlight the work of his former teammate Dida, who is the goalkeeping coach.
“Clearly forgetting Donnarumma is very difficult, as he’s one of the strongest goalkeepers in the world. Maignan has a very strong personality, it wasn’t easy to replace someone who was, if you like, also an idol.
“The qualities of the Frenchman also emerged thanks to Dida’s work. The Brazilian, in addition to possessing great skills and experience, won everything with the Milan shirt, he is part of the club’s history. Here this helps a lot. Maignan was put at ease and thus managed to express his full potential,” he stated.
In addition to shining with Milan, Maignan is also getting more chances with France and he could be the man to replace the ageing Hugo Lloris. The Rossoneri really managed to sign a star, in other words, and hopefully he will continue like this.
