Sesto mayor reiterates ‘only green light is missing’ from Milan and Inter for stadium

By Isak Möller -

As Milan and Inter’s stadium project is now subject to public debate, causing further delays, the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni is trying to take advantage of the situation. This became clear yet again this morning.

The Milan city council has been far from easy to deal with and Milan are getting increasingly frustrated. The project is now subject to public debate and that will take a lot of time, while a positive conclusion isn’t certain either.

Therefore, the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni is trying to take advantage of the situation, given that Milan and Inter have probed the area before. Unlike the Milan council, Sesto are ready to welcome the clubs with open arms.

“We are working on it, but it doesn’t depend on just us. In any case, we would be ready immediately. It’s a private area and the owner agrees to the sale, while the council agrees as well. Only the green light is missing from the clubs,” he told adnkronos (via MilanNews).

It remains to be seen what Milan and Inter will do, but it’s clear that the Rossoneri’s new owner Gerry Cardinale wants to accelerate the stadium matter. Moving the project to the Sesto area shouldn’t be ruled out, therefore.

  1. Do it already. This is the most important issue – even more so than player transfers. We must own our OWN stadium. I have been to San Siro many times – it’s just a concrete building with not much to offer the fans. Horribly outdated. Would love to build s new stadium there – but unfortunately politics (unsurprisingly) have gotten in the way. Time to say goodbye and build the stadium in the Sesto area or another w- years will go by and we will be in the same spot. Time to move on, build a modern stadium. We gave San Siro city council all the chance in the world – but they will not change. Politics and bureaucracy in Italy are notoriously difficult and this will continue to drag on for another 20 years. The team, club and most importantly the fans build history – we did it in San Siro and we can do it again in the Sesto region. Let’s go Redbird build us a new stadium away from these greedy politicians in the San Siro area.
