Andriy Shevchenko has admitted that he felt strong emotions returning to Milanello today to meet the rest of the squad.
Earlier today, Milan posted images of the legendary striker at the training ground. He greeted all the squad members, from Rafael Leao and Luka Modric, to the manager Massimiliano Allegri and even the Milan Futuro head coach Massimo Oddo.
The reason for Shevchenko being in Italy is that the the 2026 World Legends Padel Tour is taking place today in Milan, and he spoke to Sky (via MilanNews) about his visit to the training ground today.
Today you returned to Milanello…
“It’s beautiful, I felt something in my stomach. I haven’t been here in four or five years. It was great to see the team and Coach Allegri. I also went to see the youth academy, I even saw Tassotti. I see Milan winning and that makes me feel good.”
How did Allegri seem?
“I found him energised, cheerful, and positive, and it really makes me believe that Milan can do it; they’re on the right path. The team is working and moving, we need to try and put pressure on Inter.”
And Modric?
“He’s a great player, he’s always impressed me with his humility. He has great character, he’s a leader. I asked him how he felt in Milan and if he settled in well, and he replied that he’s happy and that the AC Milan fans are special. And that’s true. Fighting for the Scudetto, for the Champions League, makes the fans happy and gives you great energy.”
How do you see Leao as a striker?
“I think he and I have different characteristics. He’s made a significant contribution since the start of the season. He’s changed roles, but it’s not suited to his characteristics. However, he’s been very open to the coach’s requests and has had some good matches.
“He’s struggling, but he’s making himself available; he needs to adapt to a role that isn’t his own. It will take time to understand if he’s suited to it. He, like others, is giving his all and performing well.”
Shevchenko’s record speaks for itself, with 175 goals in 322 appearances for the club. He won a Champions League title, a Scudetto, a UEFA Super Cup, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana too. He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2004, having helped Milan to the top of Europe in 2002-03.

Straight from the horse’s mouth: Leao is not a striker. Switch to 4-3-3 or make some hard personnel choices this summer.
He’s one of the best in the LW role. So we’re turning one of the best in his role into a mediocre striker.
Wouldn’t it be better to just use Pulisic & Leao where they are at their best and get a proper #9? So much wasted talent and opportunities. And for what?
The professionals agree that Leao is not meant to be a CF. But honestly I’m not sure if he can burst into speed and dribble anymore. He is just not 100% fit.
