Sky: Barcelona’s interest in Leao concrete but Milan’s stance is ‘unequivocal’

There has been increasing speculation that Rafael Leao is a concrete target for Barcelona and that they might try a late move, but AC Milan have reportedly set a firm stance.

It seems that Barca made it one of their objectives to sign a new starting left winger this summer, initially pursuing Nico Williams of Athletic Club de Bilbao but failing to get a deal over the line in time, which prompted rumours that they might go for Leao who Deco is a big fan of.

In fact, the front pages of both Sport and Mundo Deportivo in Spain yesterday mentioned the Portuguese as being a concrete target for the Catalan club, even if they acknowledged it would be a difficult pursuit due to the economic and timing factors.

According to what is being reported by Sky (via MilanNews), Milan’s stance on the matter is ‘unequivocal’ and Leao – especially with nine days to go until the end of the transfer window – is not for sale at any price.

His €175m release clause is only valid up until mid-July too, which means that the Rossoneri can evaluate (and decline) every offer that arrives on merit, while there has been no suggestion that the winger will push for the move.

  1. They can’t resist money , for 80 mil they would sell him for sure and bring in replacement for 20 ,and say its a risk to refuse that kind of money

    1. Would they be wrong to do so though?

Barcelona are stupid and run with the ultimate short-termism, but even they can’t be this stupid – if they had the money they’d keep throwing it at Nico Williams. Although if Williams has turned them down, it wouldn’t surprise me – he’s clever enough to know what a basket case Barcelona management is

  2. We WOULD sell him, but I think this interest has come too late in the mercato. Our management wouldn’t be quick enough to replace Leao.
