AC Milan are focusing on the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma more so than that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or any potential signings, a journalist claims.
Paolo Maldini, Frederic Massara and Ivan Gazidis are hard at work to try and finally resolve the futures of those players who are only under contract until the end of the season, but the worrying thing is that it seems none of the renewals are actually imminent.
New deals must be completed before the management can dedicate themselves to the new signings ahead of next season, and there is no doubt that qualifying for the Champions League will help both to keep the players close to a farewell and to focus on additions.
However, the management have drawn up a list of priorities and there is only one at the top: to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma. Once that is addressed, then the situations regarding Hakan Calhanoglu and Zlatan Ibrahimovic can be looked at.
Peppe Di Stefano spoke to Sky Italia about the renewal situation for Milan, with his comments transcribed by MilanLive and translated below.
“Transfer rumours could distract Milan. At this moment it is a priority to have Donnarumma renewed because it is difficult to find a replacement at his level,” he said.
“Different speech for Ibrahimovic, given that this season the Rossoneri have been able to do well even without him. However Milan want to keep everyone, but for this we need to reach the Champions League.”
