Sky: Milan will hold new talks with Leao after the World Cup – the situation

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao’s contract has been a hot topic over the last few months and AC Milan failed to reach an agreement before the World Cup. The situation is not ideal but a new attempt will be made in January.

The renewal talks are complicated above all for two reasons: 1) Leao is asking for a high salary, around €7m per year, and 2) the compensation to Sporting must be paid by someone eventually. It’s a tough situation for Milan, in other words.

According to Manuele Baiocchini of Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Milan are aware that the negotiation isn’t easy. They will make a new attempt after the World Cup and the outcome of that will, of course, depend on Leao’s performances during the tournament.

A great tournament could make life very difficult for Milan in terms of renewing the contract, but it would also help increase the price tag of Leao. It’s a double-edged sword for the Rossoneri, therefore, and it remains to be seen what will happen.

  1. Lets not forget that mendez still thinks he is the players agent, so any contract signed will go through the courts again, dont expect this to be sorted any time soon.

  2. It is elementary maths. Inter is near to lose Skriniar. Milan dont have anymore time. And time is also Money. Without Leao in January we can buy Noa Lang and to be competitive for 4th place. In summer 2 or 3 big names must be sign for difference money. So sell Leao for 100mil in January or extend him. In summer we will lose more money.
Fans are still not convinced as Red Bird as a club owner.

    1. “Fans are still not convinced as Red Bird as a club owner.”

Based on what? At least I’m convinced. They haven’t screwed up anything yet and have good, solid plans for the future. They haven’t even had a (full) mercato yet.

      1. True, although the way it’s shaking out is all too similar to how the renewal efforts for Calhanoglu, Donnarumma and Kessie shook out, i.e. a series of unsuccessful offers until the player finally walked for free. In my opinion Leao ought to be sold in January to the highest bidder. I really don’t want to bet the farm on whether Redbird will be different to Elliott. As a matter of fact, if they sell in January we will know for sure they’re not Elliott 2.0.

    2. Inter is really close to a renewal of Skriniar tho, would love to to see them lose him at zero but that’s basically done. Hope we renew Leao and if it’s impossible we need to sell him in The summer. Only negative is that clubs will lowball us bc they know we need to accept something if its better then zero

    3. No need to spend a dime on Lang, who is the same age as Leao, but still playing in the Belgian league, I.e., high chance he ends up like CDK, needing an adjustment period albeit 3 years older than CDK. Just can’t help feeling Lang isn’t “it”. I’d rather spend any Leao money on ST, RW, and CM, and instead promote Chaka Traore, 17 y/o, who is having a fantastic year in the Primavera to gain first team experience at LW. He can timeshare with Rebic (and Origi) until the end of the season and then take over full time next season.
