‘They want to stay’ – Sky journalist claims Milan are pushing Theo and Maignan out

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has suggested that Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez are being forced out by AC Milan.

Theo has a contract which will expire in just over 12 months, and earlier in the week it was reported that Milan and Al-Hilal had agreed a deal for Theo worth around €35m. He rejected the idea of a move there, hoping to get a top European club, with Atletico Madrid then entering the scene.

Meanwhile, Maignan – who is the captain of the Rossoneri – also seems to be heading for the exit door. He has refused to speak with Milan over a new renewal and, according to Sky, told the club that he wishes to join Premier League outfit Chelsea.

A shock Sky update

Peppe Di Stefano, the well-known correspondent and journalist for Sky, spoke directly from the Italy training camp. The Azzurri are preparing to face Norway this evening, but his main comments were on the outgoings at Milan.

“Theo and Maignan? I understand they want to stay, I believe that these possible sales are in this case the club’s choices, especially regarding Theo, to get rid of him,” he said (via MilanNews).

“What remains in doubt could be a bad management of resources in the last season, resources understood as players or team group. Obviously, only the club can give an answer”

  1. A lot of things are not lining up. Reports that Allegri wants Maignan to stay, reports that Maingan wants to leave, now reports saying Maingan wants to stay but management wants to sell them. Furlani saying no sacrifices are needed (granted I don’t trust anything he says).

With Theo I do think this may be more true. But again, I think we are back to the summer rumor mill where the media just wants attention and journalists are just spreading misinformation

    1. From what I read about Maignan, he wanted to stay and almost reached an agreement with the management about a new contract, but since his performances dropped, they wanted to renegociate his wages and eventually put his renewal on standby.
Sensing that his days are numered and that the management doesn’t care about him, Maignan eventually decided that leaving is the better option.

      1. He was injured for 40+ games in last 3 years. That is what happened. Of course you don’t offer a top contract to someone who misses out that much, but he should have been sold last summer. But nobody would pay last summer since he was injured…

  2. What I don’t get is why he wants to join a club who flushes more money down the toilet than anyone else in Europe and yet thinks he’s only worth 10 mil…

    1. He isn’t gettin any younger, the club is paying Origi more per season NOT to play, management isn’t signing off his renewal/pay raise, and frankly, the club is headed nowhere fast.

So yea, in these circumstances even Chelsea looks appealing. Oh and even that dumpster fire club made CL next season.

    2. With 1year left in contract and at 30y old goal keeper, you want 100m or what?
50/60m for young goalkeeper is the maximum in history.
Maignan at 30y age and his contract running down 1year, 10m is good fee and maybe 15m is max for any team.
      Be realisti.

      1. 30 for a goalie still in the category of ‘peak’ age and can still retain high value until 34-35 and an offer for 10m is rubbish just because he only had 1 year remaining contract in his peak age.

  3. Extend their contracts and save the money to get proper players elsewhere in the pitch.

Let them rest this summer and come back stronger.

    Stop selling everyone!

  4. Havent you guys noticed a pattern that practically all the players bought by MALDINI were been forced out! and obviously Theo loves him and even went to visit him recently!
All these loyalty to Paolo drives them crazy such that even young Daniel Maldini is been sold and given to Monza cheaply! This bitterness and inferiority towards Maldini is eaten this management like a cancer such that every decision made lead them 4 steps back!
This is indeed a toxic environment to work even to the point that our disgraceful figurehead president scaroni even called out Maldini in the public! Where has courtesy, politeness, class and elegance gone to ? Such that this kind of man head and organisation as global and influential as Milan? I am speaking from Nigeria and I must say this is the worst president I have ever seen in in my entire 34+ years of studying football organisation! And even in Africa such a one will have been excommunicated for his errors! Mistakes can be pardoned but character deformation is severely punished ~He lacks everything to manage a team of executives! No influence, no proactiveness, no class nothing but emptiness! As I will always say, management is a microcosm of its leader and so it’s not surprising that Milan is declining and I can prophecy that this is just the beginning of stormy days for Milan except this management is pushed out and discarded.

      1. You love RedBird, always defending them. You in love with Cardinals or something? Didn’t you say they weren’t going to sell any stars?

        1. I bet that was a mistaken identity, I have always been a stout advocate against their ideas ( moneyball) implementation at Milan and their desecration of everything Milan stands for! And worst still their Americanised treatment of fans! For their pocket sake ! I’m a fan and therefore if anyone comes along from somewhere and desecrated our growth, why should I support such a one? It doesn’t make sense

      2. Boulder, how are you still sucking the meat of the most incompetent owners we’ve had in decades. We’re modtabke again kiddo. All because an ownership you’ve tried to suck off forever now, and you’re just angry they made you look as foolish as they are

    1. I pointed out exactly the same some time ago. It is a pattern – Tonali, Theo, Mike, Adli, Bennacer, Calabria and now potentially Thiaw and Tomori. Gerry wants to get rid of Maldini imprint and write his own story. Great story he’s writing too. Going down in the history of this club as one of the worst owners ever.

      1. Guys invented the reverse moneyball. Take players, I mean assets, worth over 50M and make sure they lose most of their value with poor surrounding cast and coaches and ridiculous contract offers, then push them out for peanuts. All of this while winning nothing.

        1. And because of this, they consequently need to sell one of the prized players. I mean assets. They get to keep their job too.

    2. I don’t blame anyone for wanting to leave. Their seem to be too many captains sailing the ship but no true leaders from the management. Makes me angry on the lack of thinking investment needed to implement a positive philosophy.
When Milan did not take the chance for De Zerbi because of the 10mil clause, the team lost nearly 150mil with player depreciation and failing to qualify for the CL.

    3. If this is true, then I have to applaud the management.

The players should be loyal and play for the badge, the club. Their loyalty is not to any Director or employee of the club.

It’s quite laudable that if their loyalty is gone, they should be sold to follow Maldini as they are not deserving of it.
They simply need to purchase a new crop of players who are loyal to the club.

Milan is bigger than any individual they are loyal to. Milan made those players they are loyal to.
These are machineries who should be cashed on ASAP.

Spoilt set of players. Bayern Munich sacked legends Oliver Khan and Salihamidzic, the players didn’t revolt.
Was it a crime that Maldini was hired?

MILAN IS BIGGER THAN MALDINI OR ANY PLAYER WHO PLAYED FOR THE CLUB IN THE ENTIRETY OF IT’S HISTORY.

    4. Well said @ Adeleye Adekunle jnr

Pay no attention to that Redbird Loving A$$ muncher @Boulden – he beats off to posters of Gerry and Georgia regularly

  5. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything Di Stefano has said and think it doesn’t sound like nonsense. The man has no credibility.

If they want to stay, they can stay – it’s entirely up to them – they have 12 months left, all the power is with the player – Milan won’t discard them if they decide to leave on a free.

  6. Why do I feel like they are pushing out all the players who were a nuisance in the dressing room? If a player goes against the coach and causes disruption in the dressing room, they deserve to be let go, no matter how big they think they are. This might be a false report though.

    1. We have seen instances where we hear a report that a player was not behaving well and he was forced out of the club; a very good case study was Andrea pirlo in Milan under allegri, Rashford from manutd under the tutelage of the sacked coach, Saleemakers to Roma, Eto & Zlatan under pep guardiola! All these players went ahead and made impact in their clubs while the manager who forced them out realized they made mistakes!
So that’s why you hardly find players misbehaving under Ancellotti because of his man-management skills….not all the time the players are to be blamed, it’s the job of the coach to manage the different players who had different education, personality, come from different environment, had different ambitions! And make a team out of them….so if a coach fails to do that, then it’s not the players fault..

  7. So after dragging ass for the last two years Theo realizes his only other option for big money is Saudi so now he wants to stay and renew?

  8. They got 1 year left on their contract.
Neither one of them deserves the money they are asking to extend.
Of course the club, as every other club, wants them to leave, otherwise they would leave for free next summer.
But I forgot. Some Milan fans think that it is smart to keep players until their contract expires and then just hand them over for nothing to your biggest rivals or other clubs in Europe.

  9. It is understandable why they want to push out both.

Reijnders sale make only 14 million of profits for 2024 2025 season.

They need at least 80 more million of capital gain from player sales in 2025 2026 season. Some of the money will be from selling loaned players. And 30 – 40 million of capital gain – from theo and maignan sale.

  10. My problem with the management of Milan is they are not good managers. They would have renewed the contract of Maignan in order to make more money from his sale. They always act slow and their opponents are faster and wiser.

    1. I understand Theo and maybe Reinjder if he wants to play under Pep but Mike is something different. Best solution extends for 1 year with option to trigger one more. That way nobody will low ball you.

  11. They have one year left and want more money. They have the right to request it. If Milan isn’t going to give it to them, the only solution is to sell them. It’s sad because I think with a coach like Allegri, all of their values will rise again. Any defensively minded team that doesn’t concede a lot will automatically see inflated values in their defensive line.

  12. Maignan
    Tomori
    Florenzi
    Calabria
    Theo
    Leao

I think time is naturally up for these players to leave. It’s like end of a cycle. At least a couple should have been sold last season, and the impact on the team wouldn’t be great . End of a cycle I believe it’s called ..?

    1. Agreed but I don’t think selling both Theo and maignan is right, maignan still integral to us Theo can leave honestly

  13. Seems teams aren’t knocking down the door for Theo. He wants top dollar while not being a top player. I’m tired of hearing he’s a top 5 RB. He’s not.
