Sky: What made Pioli ‘extremely angry’ in the minutes after Thiaw’s injury

By Oliver Fisher -

There was some confusion in the second half of last night’s game against Inter when Malick Thiaw picked up an injury and needed to be replaced.

According to what was reported by Sky’s Peppe Di Stefano (via RadioRossonera), after Malick Thiaw ‘s injury – which occurred in the 64th minute after he went for a tackle and his knee buckled slightly – the replacement designated by Stefano Pioli was not Pierre Kalulu but Simon Kjaer.

However, what happened in the moments that followed is quite interesting. Pioli wanted to put Kjaer on because he believed the Dane to be more similar to the German in terms of physical and tactical characteristics.

However, the ‘extremely angry’ Milan head changed his mind at the last minute and the reason is linked to Kjaer himself, who was guilty of having taken too long to get changed. This is why the Rossoneri coach hurriedly sent Kalulu onto the field.

  1. That show the problems in the dressing room.

Kjaer already behaved not correct in the first games, where he was subbed. He lost my respect.

We should go for Ndicka from Frankfurt – we can have him on a free transfer and pair him with Thiaw/Tomori. Kalulu is a RB not CB.

  2. No time for blame. The coach and the guys have given their all. Poor management has cost us dearly. Time to start planning well for next season.

    1. Management need to plan well for next season. They need sign quality and decisive players for the attack.
Not to blame anybody but we should scored on the early clear chances we got.

      1. No one to blame and everyone to blame. After all it’s a team sport and it comes from the owners & management down to the players themselves. Everyone has failed miserably if Milan won’t finish in the TOP4.

  3. Sign ndicka free transfer for preparing after kjaer contract expire. Ndicka have similar atribute physical with kjaer

  4. Sell Leao. He will never be what we want him to be because we can’t afford the players needed to support him. Sell him and reinvest to improve several positions.

A player can’t spend his entire career trying to win 1v1 situations. Opponents are used to it by now.

  5. I’m calling bullsh!t on this one. This is Pioli trying to pass the blame for his terrible decision which ultimately cost Milan the game. The cameras showed Kjaer getting ready immediately when Thiaw got hurt. Kjaer is a leader and professional.

    1. Hope Pioli’s words are not going to affect the dressing room.

Pioli, as head coach of Milan, has been TOTALLy lost with no improvement since January. He needs to go.

      1. Yes pioli must out if AC Milan fail to finish top 4 serie A ,the new coach will decide using kjaer or not renew him ( his contract expire in 2024)

  6. whats with you people. Pioli is one of the best coaches in the world. He took us to the semi finals of the champions league after last season not even leaving the group stage! Pioli is the only man for milan (unless Ancelotti wants to come back). Pioli brought joy back to us milan fans. Dont be so quick to forget where we were only 3 years ago.

    1. He destroyed our game. He gave the key of the game to Krunic and sent Bennacer to fight with Inter giant backs. Our midfielders 2 against 5. Calabria to defend against Dzeko. Diaz rebounding against Bastoni. Changes after 75 minutes! This is good coaching?

  7. Hold on guys. This report was about someone (Sky correspondent) saying what he thought happened, and not what Pioli himself confirmed. So no rush to crucify Kjaer.
