Sky journalist explains what Pioli’s future will depend on and the role Ibrahimovic will have

By Oliver Fisher -

Sky journalist Luca Marchetti believes that AC Milan’s fate in the Europa League is what will determine whether Stefano Pioli keeps his job or not.

Milan were held to a 3-3 draw by relegation-battling Sassuolo yesterday afternoon at the Mapei Stadium, but they found themselves 2-0 and 3-2 down which meant a second half fightback was required.

Pioli’s decision to make seven changes from the defeat to Roma on Thursday in view of the return leg backfired, as the starters ended up having to try and salvage a draw. It is not the first time that mass rotation around European games has led to dropped points.

At the end of Sassuolo-Milan, in the Sky studios, Luca Marchetti spoke about Pioli’s position and the doubts regarding his role as the head coach. His comments on the situation were published by Radio Rossonera.

“If Milan were to win the Europa League it is difficult to think of changing the technical leadership. You come second and win the Europa League, how do you justify his dismissal? It’s a different matter if Milan exited now, uncertainty would remain,” he said.

“Further discussion to be made concerns the corporate structure: Milan was ready to make a sharp turn with the entry of Comolli as CEO and of a sporting director who could take Moncada’s place, but this shouldn’t be the case.

“Kirovski, who Ibrahimovic knows very well, will arrive, but he will take care of the U23s and supervise the youth sector. He [Ibrahimovic] will be the one who will take the responsibility of deciding whether or not Pioli will remain at Milan. If he thinks the cycle has legitimately come to an end, then he will opt for a change.”

    1. We failed to beat the team standing in the 2nd last place in Serie A. Again. We’re dropping out of EL already after getting dropped out of UCL first. How is continuing like this even being considered?

      1. We haven’t dropped out of anything yet. And we tied a relegation team in a game that didn’t really matter as the starting line up suggested.

I’m not judging Pioli on the last game. But overall, I’d like to see an upgrade to his tactical limitations. The most worrying trend this season is the lack of balance between attack and defense. Is there a concrete upgrade available though?

But overall, he is within the parameters that were asked of him with a new team.

        1. It’s not just the last game but basically EVERY game against the relegating teams. Inter beats them 5-0 and we manage to get 1 point.

Bro Maldini won the Scudetto the year before then semi in the UCL (which is harder mind you) the year after…they still fired him.

    1. They fired him because Cardinale had bigger b*llz. Had nothing to do with sporting merit. That’s a different cock fight.

      1. That’s Ball will crush Ac Milan limb by limb, the only reason is that Maldini isn’t a yes man, he is the only who criticized Cardinal Management, after his interview no one among Cardinal-Furlani-Moncada replied.
