SM: Pioli pondering changes to line-up ahead of Sampdoria game

By Oliver Fisher -

After the Champions League exit at the hands of Inter in midweek, AC Milan must get back on track in Serie A with a win over relegated Sampdoria.

A top four finish will now be difficult after a terrible 2023 domestically, but Stefano Pioli and his side have a real duty to finish the season in the strongest way and to try and get at least 5th place, given Juventus are waiting for a new punishment.

Against Sampdoria therefore – as our colleagues at SempreMilan.it write – there will be no room for much rotation. Mike Maignan will be in goal with Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez the full-backs. Simon Kjaer could take Malick Thiaw’s place and play alongside Fikayo Tomori.

The midfield pairing of Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic should remain, while up front Ante Rebic should take over from an exhausted Olivier Giroud and lead the line.

On the other hand, some spots are still up for grabs. If Rafael Leao is 100% then he will be the starter, otherwise Divock Origi is ready to replace him. On the right, Alexis Saelemaekers is favoured over Junior Messias, while Brahim Diaz should be in the role of attacking midfielder.

  1. Low possibility not to win this game. Everything will be decided in turin, where we can damage corruptive juve team. Than in last game we can have same importance like last year against Sassuolo… To reach Champions League again

  2. We need to win all the remaining games, we must also sign a new young striker, also sign ascension or noa lang they are really good and a sensible can play on the right wing

    1. He is a headless chicken same as messiah salemakers cdkthey are all crap. Cash in on leao quick and buy a couple of good players.

  3. 3 wins.
    No excuses.
And hopefully we get some help from either Serie A or UEFA by docking Juventus enough points to put them behind us on the table or by banning them from Europe next season.
We did the damage to ourselves this season, so now they gotta finish strong and depend on outside factors.

    1. The game in Turin will be complicated. They will do everything to widen that gap in points. Once again they will sit back and counter , exactly the type of game we have struggled all year with.
I’m not optimistic because we are not in great shape but I’m hoping we can dig deep and pull it off. However don’t make it seem that it will be easy just because we really need the points.

      1. We have no way of reaching Juventus unless they get points deduction. And if they do the word is that it will be -9 points. As things stand if Juve get deducted -9 points we will be 1 point ahead of them. So all we need to do is not lose against them. We don’t really need to chase the lead. Other option for us to go in CL is for Inter to win the CL and Roma does NOT win EL.

  4. I don’t understand this man 😡

U don’t know the kind of relationship he has with Diaz can’t he give Adil some motherfucking time

Diaz is not our player and he does not even play up to Milan expectation.

If this clown we call pioli can train Adil am sure he will do great, despite playing few minutes this season any little time he is given I see that potential to be a great player

  5. The issue at this point is not about rotating players. Pioli needs to move away from the lone forward formation. It is clear that the current players can’t make this formation work nor make it threatening to opponents. He should experiment with a 4-1-3-2(4-1-2-1-2 as variation) or a 4-3-3. A 4-3-3 lined up; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez, Adil, Tonali, Krunic, Saelemaekers, Giroud, Leao would produce a lot more goals.

  6. Please mister play Adli. Benched Diaz for while, player who stick head down when he got the ball. Dont need player like this. Or the option, diaz on the right wing and saladmaker on playmaker.

  7. If we don’t win against a team that has given up totally. Then Pioli should give up too. We need at least 2-0 in this game.
