SM: Positive news emerges after Maignan undergoes knee checks – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan can breathe a sigh of relief regarding the condition of goalkeeper Mike Maignan who has avoided a serious injury.

Maignan was forced off in the first half of last night’s win over Slavia Praha after a late tackle as he tried to get rid of the ball. After attempting to play on twice following the medical staff coming onto the field, the decision was made to bring him off, but optimism filtered after.

According to what we have learned, the evaluations that Maignan underwent this morning ruled out any kind of capsular-ligament problem in his right knee, which means that it is just heavy bruising that he has suffered.

Depending on how the knee reacts today and tomorrow, Stefano PIoli will likely decide to rest him for the away match in Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday afternoon, meaning Marco Sportiello would get the nod.

Then, the medical staff must assess whether it is right to send Maignan away on international duty for France’s two friendlies over the break.

It does seem certain at this stage that the Frenchman will at least return for the match against Fiorentina on Saturday 30 March at 20:45 CET, therefore before the two Europa League legs against Roma.

  1. I’ve just about had it with this guy. Overhyped, overrated, and overpriced. Better cash in like our neighbors across the street did with their GK.
