Sportiello previews Lazio clash and discusses his displays: “Important for me”

By Isak Möller -

Marco Sportiello will start on the bench for AC Milan against Lazio this evening as Mike Maignan is back from his injury. Ahead of the clash, the former shared his thoughts on the last few games.

Maigfnan suffered a minor muscle injury in the game against Newcastle and thus wasn’t available against Hellas Verona and Cagliari. Sportiello stepped up and did well in Frenchman’s absence, showing that he’s a capable backup.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Sportiello shared his thoughts on the two previous games and also tonight’s challenge. He made it clear that the Rossoneri want to claim all three points in front of their fans.

On the games he played…

“It went well. It’s not easy to be ready, especially for a goalkeeper and when coming off the bench. What was important for me was to show my teammates that I’m a reliable goalkeeper. We are happy with the six points and we want continuity.”

On the saves made…

“The one against Verona is difficult but at least it was at hand height. The important thing was what I did during the match, in the situations and how I read the game. This counts for the goalkeepers today.”

On the match against Lazio…

“They are a very technical team with great individuality. They’ve had this coach for two or three years now. We’re at home and we want to make our fans happy and bring the game home.”

On the standings…

“We are first in the standings even if it doesn’t count for much, we are still in the early days. Apart from the match against Inter, we have always had excellent performances. We are happy and want to continue this trend today too.”

Lazio have had a very tough start to the season, collecting just seven points, and Milan are thus the favourites to win tonight’s clash. However, it won’t be easy for the Rossoneri who will need to be fully focused from start to finish.
