Spurs can perhaps count themselves lucky to be only going back to London with a one-goal deficit to try and overturn as AC Milan missed big chances.
Firstly it was Charles De Ketelaere who had a huge chance to make it 2-0 when Giroud won a header that found the Belgian in behind, though his downward header was just about deflected for a corner even though it was heading wide.
Moments later another huge chance went begging as an inch-perfect cross from Rafael Leao on the left was met firmly by the head of Malick Thiaw at the far post yet somehow landed wide as he headed it back across goal from a few yards out.
The hope has to be that the missed chances do not come back to haunt the Rossoneri in the second leg back in north London, while Spurs will be counting their lucky stars on the flight home.

Yeah it sucks we won by such a narrow margin, but this would have meant so much to CDK, to Malik too, but he is already flying high full of confidence. Poor CDK needed that boost, sadly it didn’t happen.
CDK even had time to put his boot through it. Poor bastard. The article forgot missed chance no. 3, which was Giroud’s pass to Leao who with a better first touch would have been through on goal. A real 7m per season player would have gobbled that up.
Both player have height but not good play with head like Giroud. They should more practice set pieces attacking and defending, to score on the game.
By watching every Milan match since Pioli took charge (and way before that too) I can honestly say that I don’t think Milan practices set pieces at all. At least defending them. Teams and players tend to get better when they practice. That hasn’t happened with Milan’s set pieces. They might have gotten worse actually.
If they are practicing it, person in charge of that needs to be fired like 3 years ago.
I have done what CDK has done in pickup games so many times. Such frustration, his play is modestly improving though, hopefully he finds the back of the net soon as no one on this planet needs a goal more than him.
