CM: €1m investment for the ‘Polish Tonali’ – Stalmach stars again for Milan Primavera

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the main protagonists from yesterday’s 2-0 win for AC Milan’s Primavera side against Atletico Madrid was midfielder Dariusz Stalmach.

Calciomercato.com recall how Ignazio Abate said after the game that picking out individuals would be unfair because of how good the collective effort was against Atletico – which took Milan to the Youth League final four – but Stalmach certainly deserves a mention.

The midfielder was born in 2005 and he scored the goal that unlocked the game after a cross from Bakoune in the 13th minute. He is a player who gives his best in a three-man midfield because he provides quality and work rate, knowing how to apply himself in terms of positioning in both phases.

In terms of characteristics, there are those who compare him to Sandro Tonali, even if he can improve a bit on his finishing inside the area. The goal Atletico Madrid was in fact his first in European competitions and only the second this season, though he does have three assists.

Stalmach had actually already tasted senior football when he arrived at Milan at the end of last summer’s transfer market as he had made three appearances in the Ekstraklasa for Gornik Zabrze.

The Rossoneri beat competition from Juventus and Roma to sign him and paid €1m to do so, a significant amount for a player that will only turn 18 in December. Yesterday the first step towards the first team dream took place, and his development will certainly be worth following.

  1. I need clarification from journalists who are making up those “next XYZ” labels:
If Stalmach is the next Tonali, and Tonali was supposed to be next Pirlo, then does that mean that Stalmach is also a next Pirlo?

  2. We don’t need the next Tonali. We need the next Kaká, the next Shevchenko, the next Nesta and the next Ancelotti. More than a decade on we still haven’t replaced those!
