CorSport: Tare and Allegri plan chat with Maignan – optimism over renewal growing

AC Milan are growing in optimism that Mike Maignan may actually remain at the club, with contract extension talks planned.

At times last month it seemed certain that Maignan would be going to Chelsea in time to play in the FIFA Club World Cup. However, the Premier League side never got close to offering what Milan wanted for the Frenchman, and thus he remained.

Igli Tare later said in a press conference with journalists: “Maignan is not leaving, he will be at Milan next season too. There was interest from a Premier League club but in the end an agreement was not reached, knowing that Maignan is a point of reference not only on the pitch but also off it. We decided to focus on him and look forward together.”

Milan hold Maignan hope

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes, Maignan will be present at Milanello on Monday for the first day of the preseason training camp. Massimiliano Allegri was the main promoter of him staying, asking the management to retain Mike ‘at all costs’.

While nothing can be taken for granted, the paper goes on to add that both Allegri and Tare will try to soften Maignan’s position over the next few months to push him to sign an extension, given that his contract expires in June 2026.

It will require clarity but above all credibility after what has happened in recent months, including unfulfilled promises and less than optimal sporting results. However, there seems to be optimism filtering through from Casa Milan regarding this issue.
